So far... So good...

I got it today, it took about 5 minutes to transfer all my settings. I simply did the 87 Octane tuning with no speed limiter, and the 160degF fan setting (It kicks on the low speeds around 185 and the highs around 194... sounds good to me). I just drove it and the coolant stayed at a reasonable temp and never touched the straightup position, the fans seem to be working properly, and so far I don't have an SES light or anything for the 160 stat.

Hopefully this cured my 160 stat issues and all. Oh yeah, the stock revlimiter was 5800 RPM So I set it to 6000 :D . And I set the top speed to 255mph just to get rid of it for good .

So, if you want one, and you've got a 2000-2002, it seems to work great and do what it says without a flaw.

So, I recommend the Hypertech, I think it is a good unit. Its simple to use and kind of fun and exciting to use I only wish it worked for the previous year models which are more heavily modified right now... Anyways, go get one!

I'll be track testing this on friday to see if it does anything performance wise. The car doesn't "Feel" slower and seems quite peppy, but I'm not coming to conclusions yet. In a gear too tall for the speed though (like 15mph in 3rd) I have no problems with lugging though like I would if I gave it gas - it actually takes off smoothly and lug-free... who knows what they did but it seems to be good .

----------------------------

Oh - Meant to mention that today I reinstalled my 160° stat and added some waterwetter to the mix just to get it working nicely.

I wish Hypertech would have developed one for the 99's. I'm going to contact Hypertech and tell them about the sponsor area on our website where they could push their products to over 2,500 Camaro/Firebird V6 owners. But I think the only way to make this work is for others, who are fiending for a product such as this, to contact Hypertech through their website and just send them an email that states you want a Power Programer.

I have a 99 Firebird, but my PCM is programmed with a VIN from a 2000 model (needed the codes from a car with Y87 when I went to 3:42 gears, and that was the only one I could find.)
Works just fine. So I could probably use the Hypertech, although finances prevent it for now.
But if you have a 99, you could get the VIN from someone with a 2K...then the only problem is finding a dealer willing to do the reprogramming for you.
Won't work for any model year earlier than 99, though, because of the electronic throttle.

It indeed does gears and tire sizes

I have not buried the needle due to law enforcement and the fact I'm on T rated Eagle GAs which I do not trust over 95...

Rik,

So you are saying I can simply get a vehicle identification number off ANY 2000 and be able to reprogram my car with it....assuming the dealer you do it for me. Is this able to be done because there are no physical differences between these cars?

so does you egine run better with the 160 stat fan turn on temps?

I've had my car up to 135mph, it was pulling extremely slow and it was in 4th gear, had i put it in 5th, it probably would have slowed down. I think a 3.73 gear would probably give u a little extra pep in 5th to keep on pullin cuz i hit rev limiter at 6000rpm doin 135mph on my z28 gauges. I figure 3.73s were MADE for 3.8 camaros, and in fact will help your top speed since you'd be able to shift into 5th, your UNUSABLE gear. That's another advantage to a lower gear :D

Well it certainly runs cooler, and it probably maintains a 175-190 temp range now instead of a 200-230 temp range. I will drive it more going to gainesville this week and will report back on how well it does.

So far I'm very pleased though, its nice to have all these options available to me now

The only physical difference I know of is the tubular exhaust manifolds on the 2K's. There may be other minor variations,(perhaps the more knowledgable guys on here could tell you) but my car runs just fine with the 2K programming. Yours should too.
I would imagine you'd want to get a VIN from a car with similar options to yours (i.e., if you have a manual, probably shouldn't use a VIN from an automatic, and vice versa). Otherwise, yes you can.

No kidding, you wouldn't believe how cool the car runs now - its great! Pop the hood, no heat wave, feels great. The water wetter is also a FAR better product than that Royal Purple Purple Ice - stay away from RP products, they bite.
