  • What octane gasoline should I run at the track

I would like to try 101, but I've heard it can be bad for my engine. Has anyone run 101 in their 3.8?

The high stuff makes your car slugish, plus it only burns HOTTER. Are V6's are not made for it. I got all my info from a guy that works foe a dealer. The best stuff to run is the 87 oct.

Our cars are set to run on 87 you can run a little higher (91) and not have problems but your car will not perform as well. Some people think the higher octain stuff makes their car run better. Its a mind thing for most. "I spent more money so I must be going faster". Thats just not true. There are so many suckers out there who buy the "high performance" gas not knowing just what it does. High octain does not mean its better, only different. Cars with higher compression, forced induction, and nitrous need higher octain gas to keep their engine safe. Its will only cause us NA guys to run slower adding protection we don't even need. Save your money and run faster, buy the 87 stuff.

with the jet chip it says to run 91 or higher i believe... ive been using 93 for almost a month, so you are saying theoretically that i should use 91 cause its closer to 87?

If you can afford 93, use 93. More protection against detonation, timing may retard less, especially during warm weather.

There may not be any performance gains, but it seems to last longer than the cheap stuff, so I guess I'm a sucker. I just use a fuel system cleaner when I get my oil change to clean up fuel deposits in the system, if there are any.

I bet anyone in here that runs 87 octane during hot ambient temperatures will show timing retard before my car will. I'm done.

yeah if you are running a chip 93 would be best. W/O a chip stick with 87.

I'll definitely go with the 87 then. Funny, I always thought higher octane would allow cleaner and more efficient burning of fuel: guess that's not true with our cars. Thanks...
