  • Today's Hard Labor and a Question

Here are some pics of what I have been doing today, just trying to assess any/all damage on the Bird and rebuild so that it can terrorize the streets once again.

    Isn't it beautiful?

Look at all that rust :(

Now, here's the question, because I'm an idiot and a noob

    What is that?

Also, I have gutted out the interior to the body. Seats, console, carpet.......the whole nine yards.

      ^^ +1,

Take that son ***** off, and replace the gasket if necessary. While it's off, clean the EGR track up. If you're taking the manifold and such off, use some brake/carb cleaner to clean up all that carbon out! Egr tracks in GM motors ( from my experience ) LOVE to get clogged and cause trouble.

looks like your coolant gummed up, I wouldnt say it is rust. I had chunks in my coolant before like that and just needed a good thorough flush.

Your circled item is EGR valve like the others said. It recirculated exhaust back into the intake. An emissions item.

Nothing you would notice, i heard like 1 to 2hp, and you will get an SES light.

Re: Today's Hard Labor and a Question

I'd just try cleaning the track first before even thinking about deleting it. Don't fix what's not broke. =\

You had mentioned cleaning the track for the EGR Valve, what exactly is that? The track, not the egr valve. :P

When you take the EGR Valve off, there should be like, a hole that runs through the motor. lol, The easiest way I know of to clean it ( without ripping the manifolds off ) is spray a ton of brake cleaner ( not too much though! ) and let it settle for a few, ya' know, pick up the carbon and stuff.

Though some people don't recommend it, and at first, if your motor runs like crap, if the brake cleaner in the system is the reason, then it'll flush itself out soon enough and the motor should even out.
