  • Battery relocation to the trunk...

anyone do this yet? Anyone know if its hard? Seems like all I would have to do is clip existing connectors off, run wire form the wires in the front all the way to the rear, and resplice them back to the connectors. Will I have charging problems with the long distance of the wireing?

main reason I am doing this is the lip to my battery hold down tray is broken off by a crappy mechanic(once again why I like to do things myself) and when I go autocrossing they check for lose batteries. I ties it down with a rope, but I want something more permanent, and less ghetto to hold it down. I looked inot a making a home depot battery holder, but I do not want ot play around with drilling holes near the coolant resovoir. also i can move ~30 lbs. from the fornt to the rear. And it would be easier to jsut drill 2 wholes int he bottom of the trunk and hook 2 or 4 bolts with metal straps over the top.

6 month ago my crappy Delco battery died and I wanted to get a better one. The Optimas are a bit pricey and other bigger batteries are too large for the space under the hood, so I bought a huge 100Ah Varta Truck battery (trucks have two of them to reach 24Volts) and a friend of mine built a box of 2mm metal for me thats now mounted in the spare tire space. The box is very stable and vented through a hose to the bottom of the car.
I´v heard some bad stories about leaking or melting batteries and unhealthy gases, but with this box i´m on the safe side :D
I´ve got also a new junction block under the hood where the wires of battery, alternator, starter and the small stock junction block come together.
Until now I never had charging problems.
