If you think it is a bad EGR, just try to unplug the EGR valve wiring and see if that helps at all.
The reason I say this is because I started getting an intermittent stalling as well as half throttle hesitation. I thought the EGR was not fully closing, again intermittently. I unplugged the wiring at idle (EGR Valve Fully Closed) and I am now monitoring the situation. So far, no stalling, no hesitation. I have filled the fuel tank once so far. I am still getting about 18mpg local driving, and that is what I have been getting since I bought the car.
If you were thinking of removing the EGR, just try to unplug it first and check your results.
