Re: Check engine light

check engine.........yup, it's an engine......and it's still there......
And that's exactly why GM changed it from "Check Engine" to "Service Engine Soon" in the early eighties.
Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)

different manufactures use different words use check engine, service engine, just a little light that looks like and engine, service required it just depends. all 96 and newer cars have to be OBDII it was mandated but some 95 cars are OBDII as well

just a random geuss it maybee exahaust gas recirculation (EGR).. I had a 97 3.8 that did the same thing. the light would come on when I was in stop go traffic crawling along but then when I hit a strong acelleration to highway speed it would go off.. turns out the EGR only fucntions at 20something mpg and at low rpm so made sense
but I am not sure if they had the EGR on the 94, probbaly did.. but defintley best to get the code and look it up; the one I had was P0406 but that was OBDII
