16-17 isn't too bad if you're a little heavy on the throttle and frequent stop and go's. with CAI and exhaust, you'll stay in the 17-18's from my experience. I drove down to LA last summer and got 32+ on the freeway

I bought my 94 in 1999 with 130,000 miles on it and I've been beating on it pretty hard ever since and now it's up to 173,000 and runs just fine. The most major thing I've replaced is the water pump which started to leak a little, and the ignition moduel(the thing the coils sit on,not too expensive). Those original 130,000 were mainly highway though. The previous owner did some major commuting on TX highways. I'd sat go for it if it's in good shape for the price. Is it an auto or manual. I have a manual and have gone through a few clutches but that's due to the way I drive. And like others were saying, you could do a rebuild or get another engine for cheap. I got a compleat 3.4(oil pad to throttle body, even the accesory brakets) for my turbo build up for just under $300 with only 80,000 miles on it.

My 95 3.4 a4 has 117k miles. So far the only thing its needed in its hard life is sparkplugs, wires, a new coil pack, MAP sensor, and 02 sensors every 20k miles or so. Oil pressure is a constant 70psi when running, around 38 at idle with 10w30 syn oil. The EGR is a little funky, but still works OK. The rear seal drools just a hair, but nothing hits the ground, and the valve seals are kinda worn, a little smoke at startup. Fuel miledge with a faulty EGR is still average 22-23mpg and i do not have a light foot. With a good EGR, it will do high 20s, if not 30+ highway. Very good engines, they've been in the Fbodys since 82 and in the 4th gens, they have ALL the bugs worked out. It will last forever as long as you treat it good. If it goes, get one from a junkyard for a few hundered, or rebuild the one in the car for not much more, and it will last u another 200k+ miles...

Re: Anybody with a high mileage 3.4?

i have a 94 3.4 bird, has 131k on it now and i bought it acouple years ago with 117k. I have had to replace quite a bit of things.

          Such as...

water pump, raditator, thermostat, head gasket, o2's, plugs, wires, cat converter, window motor, brakes, tires.....

all depends on who the owners have been.

Re: Anybody with a high mileage 3.4?

bottom line a 3.4 is going to out last a 3.8 for 2 reasons a 3.4 is a 60* v6 so its balanced better than a 90* v6 like the 3.8* even with a balance shaft the second reason is still the 60* block the angle on the crank is better and less stressfull better for power and better or bearing life. Ever look at the 3.4's with the top end swap they make the same power as the 3.8's with out any othe mods. the 3.4 from the factory is a joke with no money invested by chevy but has the same potential as the 3.8 with a longer life because its a natural 60* just like a v. i have a 94 3.4 m5 with 185k on it and it still runs like a champ just over 6 seconds to 60 is good by todays standard so in short the 3.4 is a better motor by nature its just needs some help to realize it ability. by the way im getting 26 to 28 mpg city and about 32 on the freeway (75-105 back and fourth) with just some porting a test pipe and a cai both from ebay

Re: Anybody with a high mileage 3.4?

My 3.4 has 161k on it and doesnt leak or burn any oil and runs like a top. My only gripe is the rough idle that these cars are associated with but aside from that i think these motors are great. Im getting about 19 in town and around 27 or so on the highway out of it. Its doing its job just well for me. Only catch is its probably going to end up in storage since im moving. Ive taken it on several business trips already and its been great. Id trust it to drive across country. Good maintenance and love and she will run a long time for ya :)

Re: Anybody with a high mileage 3.4?

I've got a 3.4 with 151k miles on it, and it runs perfectly. It had a new alternator put in a little over a year ago, and I just put an evaporator core in it last week. Other than the usual maintenance replacements, such as plugs and wires, and a replaced rear cam seal, there's been no other problems with it. I do have a short ram intake on it, and I'm getting somewhere around 22-24 mpg around town. I'm very happy with the performance and the reliability.

Re: Anybody with a high mileage 3.4?

i believe i'm the current highest-mileage member, with just under 204,000 miles...i bought the car in june, with 199,000 miles...yes i actually bought a 199,000 mile 95 camaro because i figured if it blew id just drop an LT1 in...well...after 2 solid months of typical teenage driving, the only complaint is lifter tick...im really happy with the 3.4, and as long as i keep the oil changed and serviced good, im hopin it'll hold out until christmas, so i can do the 3400 top end swap...awesome lil engine...just as much pep as any other 3.4 with half the miles...the trans is awesome too...the way it drives now, i hope to pull another 100K out of it...smooth, quick, and really good on gas...the ultimate teenage car! lol

edit:forgot to mention, the air doesnt blow out of the vents, only the floor vents and defrost vents, but who cares...i have t-tops :)

Iron block, forged rod, and stong crank = one long lasting little motor...
