• Hypertech Programmer Update

Its been a week, 400 miles, and I've learned a lot.

#1 - Our cars will fly. I went so far past the 125 mark on my Camaro down I-10 the other night I was into the voltage gauge, I just let off before I got a ticket. I was shifting out of 4th near redline so I had to've been doing around 135 or better... so indeed the limiter is gone.

    #2 - (Good, but bad)

Good = My thermostat is working wonderfully, and the fans are working wonderfully, and the car never gets hot anymore even in traffic - its great. Its fun seeing the temp gauge drop to the low side of the 2 (on the 210) driving down the highway... my fuel economy was around 32mpg @ 90 last night too - I never saw over 26/27 with the 195 stocker stat. Thumbs for thermal efficiency!

Bad = the 2002 programming is still there, somewhere, and sadly after about 250 miles of driving it still kills the temp gauge and kicks the fans on high  I'm calling Hypertech to see if they can fix this for us 2002 owners (do 2001s also suffer from this?!?).

#3 - the programming seems to have given me a power boost, its most noticeable when passing on the highway. Partial throttle response is a lot better. I switched back and forth from stock to the 87 octane programming a few times and took trips trying to see if I felt a difference - I do and its worth it.

I'll get a dyno done as soon as I can get this thermostat stuff resolved. Also, if anyone who doesn't plan on running below a 180° stat would like to swap me their 2000 M5 PCM, I will pay you money for it and send you my 2002 PCM free. Please contact me at dgo610@comcast.net if you would like to swap.

My 2K1 does exactly the same thing and has for seven months. Had to switch to a 180 thermo.

Turns out Hypertech acknowledges this information as truth and recommends running a 180 stat in 01s and 02s  I guess I'll run a 180, at least with the hypertech I can lower my fan turn on temperatures to match it

So hard to find - I really would like one though. I'll pay for one or trade my 2002 for one anyday someone is willing.

So, you run the 160 stat in your 2001 or 2002 successfully? How long did you wait (say you drive evey day, perhaps in miles) for the gauge to come back and act normally? How long did it take to adapt to the 160?

One question... why not the 93 octane progamming?

I haven't tried it, but according to the dyno chart they only gained 1-2rwhp from the 93. The 87 provided nearly 10rwhp increase alone.

I guess I'll run a 180, at least it will fix my fan turn on temperatures right?

The 180 fixed my fan and temp gauge problem.

so, how can i get my car up past about 115 when it shuts off (govern). I have a 3.4L '95 camaro and feel like i could go quite a bit faster seeing as the rpm range is far from the redline in 4th gear (A4 trans)at 115. I feel like i'm still accelerating when it stops on me. I'm just not sure which products are out there to do the trick for the 3.4 successfully, without any harmful or annoying side effects.

                        Any help?

How well would the timing advance work if let's say you replaced the rockers? (or cam)

have you dyno-proven this gain because if that's really how much you gain, I'd love to get this thing (along with a 2K PCM of course )

I put a 160* thermostat in my car a LONG time ago. My temp gauge never died and i put it in the same time i power programmed it. It wasn't until i put z28 guages in my car that it died for a min or 2 and then came back on, then it died the next day until i reprogrammed it again. Now it's been a little over a month and it hasn't died since. If it does I'll just reprogram it again.
