Any ideas on how to do this? I see the mechanical pin that activates the chime in the door jam... is there a spring behind it that that can be removed? Anyone tried this?
That thing has been driving me nuts for years.

I was hoping for a "cut the red wire...here" solution, but I might give your method a shot this weekend. Thanks Matt.

actually, you could prolly do that too. i didn't even think of that...i just got so darned fed up with the chime, i had to do something drastic
you are right though. just need to simulate that the door is always closed. maybe pull the switch out, or find the wires behind it. the switch will either have to be an 'open' or 'closed' circuit when the door is closed. you could easily figure that out with a multimeter.
one thing to remember though, if you do simulate the door always being closed, your interior lights will NOT come on when the door is opened.
Excellent point about the interior lights. I'm not willing to give up that feature. It sounds like removing the speaker from the PCB is the way to go.
By the way, did you replace the speaker with a resistor rated at the same resistance as the speaker? Or does the board not care that the circuit is open?

nah, i left the circuit open, haven't had any problems with it.
another thing to think about tho...you need the chime to setup your factory alarm, if you want to change any of the alarm features. at least that's how my 2002 alarm is setup....that info can be found in the owner's manual. i was happy with the way the factory alarm is setup, so that didn't bother me.
also, remember if you leave your lights on, there will be no chime to remind you.
if you wanted, you could solder up a little LED or lightbulb into the holes on the PCB where the speaker was.
As for the LED, now thats a brilliant idea. Better yet, run the wire back to the drivers side, and mount an led somewhere visible to the driver. Wow, now this is starting to sound like a project!
And what's this about leaving your lights on? Do people really do that? That reminds me of a lesson i learned growing up:
Dad tells me that "the first time you run out of gas, you're on your own. Don't call home." After that, dad would pick me up every time it happened again. Needless to say, after a 2 mile walk in the dead of winter to the nearest gas station, it never happened again.
