Of course it would but I just can't bring myself to do it. If I screw something up I would probably cry. (seriously)

I don't think that GM should pay the whole bill, but owning up to a part of it because it a known design flaw affecting an unbelievable number of engines. I didn't know how vast a problem it was until a couple of months ago when I saw a news report about it. Thousands of people have damaged motors from these poor design intake gaskets. To the point were a class action suit is being contemplated. Of course GM publicly denies it.

Your a GM Tech BLLDOGG, what have you seen in the GM Service Bulletins?

                Re: Disappearing coolant

they have problems with the 3.1s and 3.4s but not the 3.8s. they have come out with a new gasket a long while back. its not like some big huge deal IMO. people just do not technically know how to operate their vehicles if they are letting them get to the point of engine failure...by the way, there are a lot of other examples of why most people do not know how to operate a car but i do not want to get into it.

and NO, GM should not have to fit the bill. you are sold the vehicle under the agreement that any and all engine repairs after the warranty is up, will be paid by the customer. tough **** if the intake gasket started leaking at 50K or 75K. the customer should know that he is going to pay for anything after the warranty is up.

In fact, its the radiator CAP that makes it act as a pressure cooker!!!
Yes I've read Howstuffworks.com (long time ago) like I already said, thanks anyways

Intake manifold gasket should take a rookie whose never done it before
no longer than an hour! It should take me no longer than 20 mins.
Its really easy and people (like me) see engine failure as a good opportunity to open it up, explore, and see how stuff works in there.
Im really sorry you dont have the time, place, or motivation.

I having trouble understanding what's so difficult about removing the upper and lower intake manifolds? Lot of guys in this forum have done it (without the luxury of a shop), yet the shop you took it to couldn't? What's with that?? Maybe they want you to take it to the dealership cause you can get GM to foot some of the bill if you argue enough?
Sounds like a horrible shop that is just scared to work on an f-body cause its a "RACE CAR" ooooooh!` Its not even the v8! Too scared to get their hands dirty cause f-bodys are sooooooooooooooooooo hard to work on. Whatever
I've gotta admit that I overheated my engine a good 20 times ( I love these engines very strong!!) I really am not sure if I actually damaged anything because of that:

1)I had a bent rod (hydrolock cause of blown H/G)
2)I had bad piston rings (they were all carboned up, it was probably a combination of overheating and running lean that ruined them)

Sounds like BLLDOGG is tired of people wanting free work done cause gm screwed up

                    Re: Disappearing coolant

The vast majority of people are not like us. They never look under the hood, or have anyone look under the hood untill something happens. Sad thing really.

It's obvious that we will agree to disagree here, and that's ok. But I am of the belief that when you goof up the engineering on something as basic as a gasket that can lead to the destruction of an engine, you should own up to it.

And this position is supported by the fact that well after the warrenty is up if the Department of Transport finds an engineering or design flaw that affects the safety of a vehicle, the Manufacturer is held accountable for rectification.

Souldn't the same level or responsibility apply to proven engineering or design flaws that cause catestrophic failures.

I'm not saying or expecting that GM pay the whole shot here, but a little compensation goes a long way in customer loyalty. Its things like this that contribute to a reality that Toyota surpases GM in vehicle sales.

there will always be screw ups because some engineer has to have a job and change something and use cheaper parts. I am just mad because it seems like every single day I have people who have such high expectations, such attitudes, that it makes you crazy. I have seena guy stand on our service drive, call GM, and ***** like a woman about how he shouldn't have to pay for a fuel pump that went out at over 100,000 miles. Guess what, GM paid for it. and No, CDNFB, i do not think GM should have to pay for it because unless I'm mistaken, you have a 3.8 and 3.8s are not having any abnormal issued with their gaskets. these things are machines that wear normally over time. thats life. when owning a vehicle, you are suppose to take into consideration the cost of possible repairs.

See I wouldn't argue the fuel pump thing. 100K is reasonable and it didn't lead to a catestrophic failure of the vehicle.

Yup. The lesson here is the squeeky wheel gets the grease.

Fight and argue. It's worth it!!

That's just :bs: . I think if it was a common known problem then they should work out some agreement on payment issues, but if he has been from under warranty for that long, they should have never paid for it. Screaming and showing total lack of respect should never get someone what they want. He should just be thankful that GM was trying to be nice and show that they value their customers.

Thats the problem. where is the line between customer care and just telling them O'well. you know what I mean. its just a touchy situation for me because it impacts a lot of people when people get things warranty when the vehicle is far past it.
