  • gas tank size?

My car has been like this since i got it. Ill drive and the check guages light will come on for the gas being low. lately iv let that light stay on for maybe 2 days and the needle floating up and down in the 1/4 mark. I do this untill i get too paranoid and think im gunna run outta gas. Then ill pull in and get gas and the pump stops when i get just under 13 gals (12.79gal on my last fill) Do i really have more gas than i think? Is my guage off? btw i get about 250 miles before each fill. almost all city. Does that sound right?

I think either the 99+ or 00+ have the 16.8's

My 2002 Camaro has a horrid fuel gauge, the half mark can be anywhere from 6-8 gallons of fuel used... Adding 5 gallons at the E puts it on the half mark!

Worse yet - stopping/accelerating can change the fuel gauge reading a whole 1/4 tank!

My 2000 Firebird had a MUCH more accurate and DEPENDABLE fuel gauge.

well since a 98 guy says he has a 15.5 and I KNOW I have a 16.8 in my 99 that would easily let me infer this...

            93-98 = 15.5gal
            99-02 = 16.8gal

also when check "gages" comes on, I usually have about 3 gallons left...I can pump in about 13.x gallons of fuel at this point. You could easily get another 40mi or so on what's left safely. Hope this helps

Do a search for this. I'm pretty sure that the 98+ have 16.5 or 16.8 gallons gas tanks. I'm not positive but I remember a post a while ago discussing this. Do a search to make certain and lets us know. As far as the light coming on try resetting the PCM and see if it fixes the problem. Since our cars have a v shaped tank and the gas tank is measured by a floating bouey(not the right spelling) it can drastically change especially when you accelerate hard or are stopping hard. It can even do it on hills and such. Piece of crap inaccurate gauge, just go by the trip odometer and how many miles you get on average per full tank. Its probably the best way.
