• Is it just my 3.4L ??? or yours to?

i have posted this before I think but I only get(MABE) like 190 miles a tank. I have a 1993 camaro A4 it has 87,000 miles on it. Last owner was a old women so i no it has not been drivin hard. It seems my car might be slowing down and has no power, besides having 160hp. But what should I do about my gas problem? HOW many miles a tank do you guys and girls get with your 3.4L? Is my car broke?

How many gallons is your tank? I have a '95 3.4L and it has a 15.5 gallon tank. If this is your tank size or close; and you're sure its not just a problem with the gage, then you have a problem. B/C Under normal driving conditions (for a 22 yr. college student- (tend to have a heavy foot which isn't good on gas milege) i get around 300 miles per tank if i were to really press it. I usually fill up by 250 though. On long highway trips i can get about 26 mpg or almost 400 miles when i drove to indy and back recently.
I'll leave possible sources of the problem to more knowledgable engine members of this board.

when was the last time you gave your car a Full Tune Up?

edit: just substitute 2.8/3.1 with 3.4, and ignore that info which doesn't actually pertain to 93-95 cars.

Does my mileage sound bad to you guys? I have a light lead foot like 25% of the time but other wise I never take it past 3 rpm. So do you think I have a big problem. ONE MORE THING does you passenger seat viberates around when your at like a stop like?Friends always tell me that when they ride with me. It might do it because mabe of the cat is right below the seat.

No vibrating passenger seat complaints... but yeah the mileage just isn't quite right- especially if you don't tend to "push it". Just doing the math alone, at 190 miles a tank w/ ~15 gallon tank is like only 12 miles a gallon. Most SUV's can surpass that. Get it checked out.

I usually get right around 300miles to a tank. Based on what I fill it up with next time, I get about 20mpg. This is basically city driving, with a mix of 35/40/45 mph roads. I don't see much change whether heavy foot or feathering the gas.

bad gas mileage + older motor = bad O2 sensors. At least that's the way it works out 99% of the time.Try replacing them (2 of them) and see if it helps.Good luck.

I bet something is causing your car to run rich. I agree with earlier posts that the oxygen(O2) sensor could be bad.

In the past I had a 2.8 Camaro and the thermostat would open way too much causing the engine to run cool. When I corrected the problem, the mileage improved by a few MPG.

My 95 M5 3.4 has 124,000 miles, and gets 20 MPG on my 20 minute, 15 mile drive to work. I fill up at about 280 miles per tank. I lean on the pedal some - it probably sees 5000 RPMS at least once a day.

Yep, a while back my gas mileage got really crappy. Talking 11mpg crappy. I swapped my O2 sensors and everything went back to normal.

Any local parts store can get them for you if they don't have them in stock. Turns out that ours are some of the more "inexpensive" of the oxygen sensors. My mechanic said that most cost over $50, and that's his cost. Luckily for our cars, you should be able to find some for around $25 or so.

I got the same problem, though I run a 98 3.8 and I get around 200-240 average of like 220 before I fill up. Should I try to take it to a mechanic or is this normal for a leadfoot.

Everyone should remember a good tune up will go a long ways!!! This is the season for it too. Just before the snow/cold weather. If you have the really bad mileage like some are complaining about, definately look into the O2 sensors. I know that I get get 3.4L models for 24.99 here. And for 50 bucks, that's 2 tank fulls now a days. The payoff is better to get the O2's.

I can't stress enough how a tune up will help over all with the cars!!!

As for the vibrations.. I also get that. BADLY!! I'm still hunting it down. Think it has to do with a bad DS balancing job. But that is what winter is for. OH.. I only get the vibes while moving at HIGH speeds. Normal cruising is fine.

the O2 sensors on the 3.4 are the same as the 2.3/3.1. you(we) just have twice as many. here, they're around $18 a pop. I'm going to experiment on mine: the stock location of the O2 sensor on the 85 is right before the cat. I'm just going to hook onto the pass side one & see if any codes brought up.
