does anyone know if there is a longer (i.e. bigger size, more capacity) oil filter for this motor ? there's alot of room down there...

longer than PF-52? not that I know of. What you could do is take a look at the bottom of the oil filter that fits. There will be a stamp on it. Match that stamp w/longer filters of that same brand.

I did that when I had the bird & the 3.4 in it. Found out that I could use the same filter as my 95 blazer, which is the same filter I use for my 99 GP.

Just curious, what's the benefit of using this larger (PF-52) oil filter?

i guess bigger filter = more oil = better cooling?

yeaah, you get more oil filtered for the same cost as the smaller filter. Some will say it will hold more oil, and thus help keep it cooler, but I don't see there being a significant amount of extra oil added oil to make that claim.

also, there's that anti-drain back valve thing too in the pf-52

What difference does an anti-drain back valve matter when the filter is on the bottom of the engine? The oil will drain back back into the filter anyways. I could understand it if the filter is up top like on some of the foreign cars. Seems to me the anti-drain back valve is just a restriciton to oil flow.
