  • Where is my coolant leaking from?

Ok well on my 94 Pontiac v6 I cant figure out what is wrong. I had a full amount of coolant earlier on in the month and then i figure out when i use my heater or defroster, it is warm but then my coolant dissapears and then the hot air will not work. I pressure tested my cooling system and it pressurized good. What else could be going on here?

no warm water, no warm air from heater. problems such as the incredible disappearing coolant sometimes indicates a blown head gasket.

be careful driving your vehicle around like this. your gonna overheat someday and really do some damage. get this checked out as soon as you can.

I am in the same boat. Coincidentally, 94 Firebird here as well.

Just completed a rebuild so all gaskets have been replaced. New water pump as well. Never any signs of leaking coolant, no puddles, no discoloration, no smell of coolant anywhere. Heat works fine too. I dunno, I expected this to be resolved when all that stuff got replaced.

Re: Where is my coolant leaking from?

Did you pressure test it yourself or did you take it to a shop?

My pressure tested okay but I had a very small leak in my lower intake manifold gasket that caused the exact same problem. I'd put money on that gasket.

strongly agree  I had a simmilar problem and put it off and off; then sure enough found myself overheating on the side of I95 waiting for a tow truck... now doing a full top end rebuild, wife says I was just boarded and needed a reason to tear into the motor.... anyways as it was getting close to blow ( few days prior) it had a distincitve smell.. kind of like wing sauce cooking, no kidding, if you smell something like that then I belvie that is the smell of oil in the water and is defintely coming from head gasket that is gettting ready to blow or already has a little hole in it

what in the top end went bad? I overheated like 20+ times and no damage! unless it was the reason for my piston rings going bad.

Re: Where is my coolant leaking from?

i pressure tested it with my auto shop teacher. And im not loosing any coolant unless i use my heater or defroster and mabey my a/c. I havent been using and of them because i dont want to overheat. How hard is it to replace that gasket and how much am i looking to spend to get this fixed?

I cant just say it was the fault of overheating when I was also running LEAN as a mofo. Coolant in cylinder #1 caused the rod to bend... but I'm sure the overheating helped it along.
BTW, what have I won BOB?
