  • ? Winding noise coming from my heater ?

My 97 camaro just started whining after you drive for about 15 minutes with the heat on, you can hear a winding, buzzing type of sound coming from the vents, and gets louder if you switch to the floor heat.. Anyone know what it could be.. definatley doesnt sound normal. Thanks

could be the blower motor....the fan that blows the air into the ducts...listen right below your glove box for it...

That's where it sounds like its coming from actually.. is that common for them to go out? Expensive to replace?

make sure thats the problem first...you should be able to test it if you can get to it, dont be scared, just dive in and start by takeing the glove box off, if you get lost then just drive it to the shop and they will fix it.

yeah , it should be in an inclosed box behind the glove-box once you see the box, its like 2 or 3 screws holding it on there. take the box off and youll see your heater core, (small radiator) the blower should be to the right of that, you'll see the fan blades of it tucked in there...since ive only replaced the heater core , im not sure of how to get the fan out...but im sure youll get it
now this was on a 94 but im sure it is the same..i think you can get to it from the engine bay as well, but i think its harder to get to..good luck

Mine sounds like a quieter hair dryer when heat is on full blast. I live with it, not that bad.

The buzzing noise could just be leaves, mine did that the first autumn I had it, I thought the fan was rubbing, but the dealer opened it up and had to clean leaves out. I have no clue how they got in there.
