If the battery tested fine then check your terminals. Make sure they are clean with no corrosion and on there nice and snug(but not too tight). If you are still having problems, it could be bad terminal posts or the starter.

Also, if it is just clicking, then the flywheel isn't spinning. Is your car a manual or auto?(I didn't see through the past posts if it was either or) if it is a manual try pushing your car forward a few inches, then cranking it and see if the flywheel spins.

      Re: Clicking but no start!

his clicking is most likely just the solenoid engaging. not the starter engaging and the engine not turning over. batteries just go bad sometimes. yes a loose connection can cause you bunches of troubles. make sure it is tight and no corrosion. that includes down into the wires.

gonzo, is your security light on?

I had a problem where my security light popped on, at the same time my keyless stopped working, and my alarm started randomly going off. - I went to start it the next day, and all I heard was -click- everytime i turned the key. The dealer diagnosed the problem it was indeed my VATS and I got a new ignition switch, as well as had my keys re-keyed. BLLDOG I have no idea what the click was, but I can vouch for hearing it. Your security light might not always come on in this situation though, i guess it was like this for months before it came on.

I have the same problem sometimes, I can hear a small click and then the security light comes on, but the car don't start. RedFBod96, how much was it to replace the ignition switch? And do you know if it was hard to replace?

Clean the chip in your key with a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol or just go buy a new key from the dealership. It might not be the ignition switch, it just maybe your computer chip in the key is dirty.

              Re: Clicking but no start!

There isn't a chip in the key, its a resistor.

See...this is where I am confused. I wish I had a GM Service Manual to read up on this cause I've heard many things about what is supposed to happen with this VATS thing.

              Seen posts here that:
some people can crank the engine but no start......VATS.
others only get a click and no crank......VATS
others say nothing happens at all.....VATS

When VATS is activated what is supposed to happen? Is it different for different models and/or years?

How different is VATS to PASS KEY II? PASS KEY II disables the starter enable relay AND the PCM fuel enable input (fuel pump won't work for 3 min.) is VATS the same as this???

Maybe this should be a seperate thread??
