alotta people say that puttin in the 160 thermo will trigger SES lights and the way to fix that is tune the pcm... how? send it out or buy tuning software or what? also, if you get a manual fan switch, do you just let those bad boys run as long as the car is on, or only once its hit 160 or when? and one last thing here... the operating temp means taht at that temp all the parts have correctly expanded to fill in all the tiny little gaps that can cause emissions and the engine will run the best. if you change the operating temp to 160, wouldnt that be harder on the engine (i.e. breaks down sooner)? just some thoughts...

in talking to one of my friends he thinks its because the engine isnt warming up quick enough...not that its not reaching a high enough operating temp. But yeah you need to get the code turned off via tuning. The thing is without tuning the only time you'll run at 160 is in cooler temps and/or steady state driving at speed. If your in stop and go traffic just remember that your stock fan settings are still in there so they wont turn on till over 210*.00 GTP
98 Camaro v6
See, told ya I\'d be rockin another 4th gen :D
V6 & V8 tuning available at http://mysite.verizon.net/whenn1/

i have a 97 with the 160. Ive never had a problem. Id like to have a manual fan switch but have not got around to it, but you dont have to have one, your fans will still kick on, and your car wont over heat, or you can just turn your a/c when sitting in traffic. I only drive my on the weekends and i dont sit in traffic so i dont have really have a reason to spend money/time on a manual switch. Oh, and to answer your queston, you dont run the fans when your car is moving at a fair speed....10-15+ mph my opion. Again i have had no problems with mine.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2245261 Green 1997, 105k, all stock except for Z28 front springs, Air shocks in the rear, home made coolant recovery tank, home made battery hold down.
