• SES Light ???

I was hoping someone could help me out on this. I have had problems with my SES light on my Firebird for awhile. At first I thought it was due to my coil packs going bad, so they were replaced. Then I was told it was spark plugs, so I changed those and my wires. Then I was told my 02 sensors may have gone bad. So when I went and had it checked (diagnostic) it showed no codes. Then the light went out???? It's one day later, and now it's back ...!???
I read on another board that some of the ram air v8's sometimes have this happen when their ram air vents take moisture in them, and the air filter. I have an undercarriage ram air kit on mine, and was wondering if anyone thought this could cause the light like I've heard for the v8 cars. I really don't know, and am at a lost of what else to do to get rid of this light???

Any help would be greatly appreciated ...... Thanks.

Have you had it scanned? The PCM will store trouble codes until cleared. Best to have it scanned for your best bet of hunting down the problem. I've never heard of "moisture buildup" for ram air boxes, nor have I had a problem with mine.

Yeah, I had it scanned and it showed no codes. Then the light went away for about a day. Now it's back. Not sure what else it could be, and why it's not throwing a code when scanned?

Ok, get the comp scanned while its on or imidiatly when it comes on. Is your gas cap on snug, are you sure all ur spark plugs are working , are all the wires working, is your car performing differet. See Ive had it all. I notice a change in car performance however slight. like right now my SES light is on. My SLP CAI is throwing it off and I need to cry about it cause I dont know of a 97 computer fooler for the cai. but u need to go to a mechanic that will show u the code. if the light is on there is a code. if the light is on there is a code. if the light is on there is a code. Just remember that when u take it somewhere. The OBD-II may be no fun but it will tell you what it thinks is wrong. - I had a missfiring cylender for a while, and I thought I just needed spark plugs, but I could turn the SES ligth on by flooring it. Drive it normal for a day or so and it goes off, floor it again it comes on. Yeah- Good luck

I'm pretty sure about the gas cap. Didn't know that would throw an SES light though.

As for the plugs and wires, I just had all those changed awhile back. Along with my coil packs. I had a guy I know check the codes with the OBD while the light was on. When he hooked it up, it showed no codes, then the light went out. This after it had been on for atleast a month. So I left and the next day it came on again. I can't tell a big difference in performance though.

The ses light isnt horrible and very dramatic unless it starts flashing at you mine has been on for a few months now, its an o2 sensor. also maybe the person who pulled ur codes f**ked up and cleared the codes. The flashing part was told to me by a gm mechanic.

Does the SES come on when idling in gear for a few seconds, then turn off when you start moving?

Thanks insane. Yeah, mine has been on for quite awhile as well, I'm just tired of seeing it. :D I wanted to find out why, so I could fix it and get rid of it.

Ramair - No it is on all the time. Idle or moving.
