oil pressure switch Broke Off

I've got a 2001 Camaro V6 with AT.

While doing an oil change I accidently broke off the Oil Pressure Switch.

At least thats what I think it is. Just to the left and top of the Oil Filter.

Well I'm sort of stuck in this town until Monday for the Chevy Dealership to open so I can replace this part.

I would rather get the heck out of dodge and get home to fix it there.

What are the associated hazards with driving with the device disconnected?

Right now the Oil Pressure reads off the scale.

I'm presuming this switch is only for the Instrument on the dash. But my concern is that it effects oil sending or pumping.

Please respond soon, I'd like to leave this town.

sounds like the oil pressure sending unit (it measures the amount of oil pressure and tells the gauge what its reading)
go to autozone for that part its like $20 cant remember but its easy to replace

Autozone claimed not to have a Part Number for it.

But truthfully I didn't really know the parts name, couldnt find it in my manual.

So does this device indirectly/directly control any flow or just display it?

oil pressure sending unit
depending on where you broke it, it might leak, might not
I wouldnt start it up
It might not control flow but if its leaking you wont have oil pressure and that will ruin your bearings
Can you get a picture of what you broke off?

yah, autozones computers are complete and pure CRAP!!!!
maybe not the computers, but the data entry people suck

Thanks for the help on parts identification.

The guys at NAPA really did a great job of finding the part for me.

It's now in and the Camaro is road ready again.

my oil pressure sending unit went out a few months ago and i lost about 5 quarts of oil in an extremely short period of time. At NAPA, like $28 got me a new one, unscrewed the old one, screwed in the new one and it was just fine.
