  • Oh God...what does this look like??

I just went out to change my oil and opened the filler cap and saw this:

I haven't drained the oil yet...

I'm guessing this is an intake gasket problem?

Yea def. water in the oil obviously either intake or head gasket like BLLDOGG said. I had the same problem and it was my headgasket which was an @$$ to replace id take a look at the intake gasket first and do not drive it. I did the mistake of driving it cause i had no choice and it just caused more and more problem's which then lead to a new motor.... Good luck..

So, I guess I need to have the radiator flushed and the oil changed right before I try to sell this off, right?

The ironic thing is that I'm looking at new cars and my top pick (2003 - 2005 Audi A4 1.8T Quatro) has an "oil sludge" issue if people don't change their oil enough (Audi recommended 10,000 miles between changes, so its really their fault).

So, in other words...oil is ruining my automotive life

(btw...likelihood of getting at least $2,000 for a 1996 Firebird (5 speed) with 107k miles?)

thats likely. and yes, I would change the oil, clean as much of the filler neck and cap as possible.

ok, what if neither power window worked and there was a large dent on the rear 1/4 panel?

definately water and oil mixing...if you haven't noticed alot of white smoke, chances are it's not your head gasket, but one of the intake gaskets...those are much easier to change out than the head gasket

I am pretty sure it is the intake gasket.

Any ideas who much $ that would be to have it fixed (I don't have the time or equipment to do it myself).

replacing the gasket isn't gonna run you much, but it's gonna be pretty labor intensive...at least 5-6 hours worth

your throttle body gasket will do that as well...had the problem happen to me and it ended up screwing up all my crank bearings and cost me a new motor.

I can see coolant pooling between my coil packs and the intake manifold. I realize that this is also next to the head gasket, but I would assume the head gasket would leak down (towards the driver's side for the driver-side head)...also, I had some work done on my car about 3-4 months ago (coil packs, plugs & wires) and they said that my intake gasket was leaking but it looked like it was only leaking out.

After draining my oil tonight I looked in it and it didn't look very milky, really. Just a little swirly.

(btw, thanks for your help, everyone)
