I'm pretty sure on this, but when doing a reflash of the PCM (from one year to another), the transmission type shouldn't matter, seeing as how the tranny isn't specified in the VIN, correct?

I believe you do need the same transmission type.
I don't know if it's in the vin or not.
But... I do know there is code in my pcm for the auto transmission. It controls shift points, sets a code if the transmission is detected to be slipping, etc. I would think a manual car, with an automatic pcm, would get a little weirded out if it didn't see the transmission there.
