  • Power Window Problem...Is it the Switch or the Motor????

Hey guys, my power window has been acting up lately, just the driverside window, the passenger side is operating perfectly fine. Anyways here's the problem: When i try and put my window up or down, the power just dies out on me and the it only goes up like 1/4 of the way. Now, if i pull up on the window while i'm pushing the button, i can get the window much further up. But when it dies, i have to wait atleast a few minutes, for it to "recharge" (that's wut it seems like) and then it'll have a little more power to push it up a little more. But i'm afraid that soon my window's gonna get stuck down when i go to wash my car, or when park for work.

My windows have been tinted for a few years now, and just last year, the tint is getting a tiny bit cut up, it looks like tracks of somesort. I guess the window is scraping when going up and down....i dunno if that's part of the problem, but i thought i'd mention it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

It is the window motor. When they go bad it will over heat. Which is why it will stop then be able to go up a little more a few minutes later after it cools down. The motor is about $50 from auto zone and the install isn't too bad if you have plenty of time to do it. I would give you a link to the install instructions, but I'm on a dial up connection and it is horrible. Just do a search there are a ton of posts on this

My window has been acting like this for a while. I just have not had the time to fix it. I think all firebirds are cursed with a bad window motor and crappy headlight motor gear.

My driver side did that exact same thing.
Replaced the motor and solved the problem.
If you replace the motor yourself, be careful, there is a scissor spring mechanism in there that can take your fingers/hand off easily.

There is a link to a big write-up on this site somewhere about how to replace it..
