SES Came on and auto zone checked it and came up with a crankshaft position sensor code . I had them clear the code to see if it would come back on . It has not come on so my question is , could this be one of those freaky thing that happen and then won't go back on .If the code comes up shoudn't it go back on if the sensor is bad. the car seems to run good
thanks
Called 2 dealers and got 2 differant answers . I told them that I had replaced the cam position sensor and cleared the code and one told me I should do a relearn for $90.00 and would take 45 min. to do . The other dealer told me if I replaced it and cleared the code I should be ok and didn't need to do a relearn . I am so confussed , I have had it with ******* dealers trying to hose me. I think I trust the one that said I should be ok , he is not gaining anything and could have screwed me by saying just what the first one told me
Actually $90 sounds right because they have to hook you up to the scanner. Places usually charge $40+ just to do that. Then they probably have a 30 min minimum labor charge or something.
Although the relearn only takes a few minutes. I watched my friend do it twice with his snap-on diagnostic scanner. He hooked the scanner up selected crank position relearn and it told him what to do. Involves revving the engine up to 4000rpm's or so a couple of times and hitting a couple of buttons on the scanner.
If you lived near Omaha I would say come on down and I am sure I could hook you up with a good deal from my friend.

On your crank sensor, it doesn't necessarliy mean it's a bad sensor. Because of it's location and only having a plastic cover ring protecting it, it could get dirty and stop giving readings intermittantly. This will cause the code to be thrown and, the worse it gets, might cause your car to turn off and have trouble starting from time to time.

Just figured I would add into this. I need to have one done myself. I replaced my PCM when I got the custom tune from western. Now I'm throwing a P0300 code when I go WOT. I found the following link that will help you understand the relearn procedure. http://www.seattleautomotive.com/ckpdoc.htm
I emailed westerns and this is what they told me. "Get the crank position 'relearn' procedure done--should take the tech about
2 minutes. Then have all the codes erased.
This light is a warning only--it does not disable any functionality of the
car, but yes--very annoying."

Hope this helps.
Yeah, if you get a PCM from Wester's you need to get a crank position relearn procedure. Your car will claim to be randomly misfiring (code P0300) at WOT without it (although it appears it really isn't, just a false reading). I had the same P0300 issue and I called Lyndon (Lyndon Wester) and that is what he told me as well. A Crank position relearn does indeed clear it right up.
