  • Rattling Noise

For about the last two months now I have been hearing this rattling noise coming from around the driveshaft or exhaust of my car. sounds like Tin hitting medal or something. Wondering if its a heat shield or an exhaust leak of some kind? I doubt its the Cat, but if it is its getting replaced anyhow, for a high-flow.
Any one else have this problem? If so can I have advice to correct problem.

    Thanks, Chris

I have the same problem and I'm pretty sure its the heat shield, I'm going to get it fixed when I get my high flow cat put on.

I had two rattles but it wasn't the heatshield (though it could be in your case)

First was when the antenna was loose, but that was-of course-on the right side of the car, but was hard to detect and seemed loud.

The second was a clamp (on exhaust pipe) that was loosening. Tightened it up, no more rattles. Just make sure everythings is tightened down, no loose connections, etc.

You should always have heatshields fixed. They are on there for a reason, trust me, gm doesn't put extra stuff on if they don't have to spend the money.

Unless your cat is gutted then you will want to keep the heat sheild. The internals of the cat hold heat forever and if you park in grass you run a higher risk of catching fire. If the cat is gutted then the shell will quickly cool just like the rest of your exhaust pipe.

There could be MANY things ratteling from under the car.

My problem was in the STOCK Y-pipe. The pipe is actually two pipes. One smaller pipe inside of a larger one. well th smaller on on the inside rusted out and was creating a ratteling sound. I bought one used, had it replaced, and everything was fine. Drove me nuts for about 6 months.

Yeah I think mine might be a Y pipe now that you mention that. I always thought it was my cat, and I JUST replaced it with a high flow, and it's still rattling in the same area. I might have to check that out...thanks...
