Well i was driving home yesterday in the pouring rain, and notice all my warning lights coming and stuff, abs, tract, ses, and check gauges light. I was about a mile away from home and then all the sudden the car start acting as if it were running out of gas, which was my intial assumption to the problem. So i barely make it into a parking lot. As my car is shutting off. So i call my dad to bring out some gas, i filled her up and try yo turn the car but no juice, then we tryed jumping it, it would turn over and then wasnt the jumper cables were off just die. So i call the wrecker to haul my car to the dealership. End up being in a parking lot in pour rain for two hrs. I call the dearship the next day and turns out it is a failed alternator(400 bucks!). Does any one know how a alternator fails while driving, could it have been the rain taht factor into it. And does 400 bucks sound right for a alternator.

Alternators can go out whenever they want. I doubt the rain had anything to do with it unless you went in a 3 foot puddle.
400 is pretty steep. :( If it ever happens again, go to a auto place and buy a rebuilt one for about 150. Its easy to install.

I lost an alternator on my 94 Camaro a while back while driving in the rain. Seems alternators don't like lots of water, while there working. Go figure.
$400 is steep, I think I got one for $200, and I thought I got had at the time.
Good news is they are really simple to change. The are in a very nice location. Alot easier then changing plugs.
