Making the "fake" 93-97 hood slots functional?

  • Making the "fake" 93-97 hood slots functional?

    I was wondering if anyone has done this. I think it would be a good way for heat to escape the engine compartment as opposed to tryin to produce a ram air affect, which would require a great deal more work.

    Whenever these car sit at idle for not very long, the heat just shoots right up, and those slots are back there where the engine sits under the firewall and I think It should help quite a bit, especially with a manual fan. What does everyone think? And what could be used to cut open the slots?

    I was just about to cut mine out and put some mesh in. Just to keep the engine cooler.

        I wouldnt do that If I were you. That would actually produce more heat under the hood and not cool it at all read....

          Hmm thanks for the link. Maybe if you could fabricate some metal under the hood that directs air toward firewall it would work better. The guy mentioning that at high speeds, the wind force going against the inside of the radiator making it less efficient, makes sense.

            Yea, it also says that the firebird's hood should have been functional but engeneering and design somehow got there signals crossed, the birds hood scoops are not in the path of air when your driving so the engine's heat can just go out, that would have been nice

              So whats the final answer......I wish thry would somehow make them functional

                final answer it will increase under hood tempature in the camaro, in the firebird there are michanical parts in the way so trying to make them functional wont happen either

                  I always wondered about this too. One way to keep it from being a problem(water ingestion and the overheating thing) would be to make a flap inside the scoops that opens with a switch. Kinda overly complicated, but if you opened them before you turned off your engine it would let the heat out faster.
