  • bogging 3.4, need help, already did egr

Ok I have a 94 camaro 3.4l v6 with 187,000 miles run great use too. I was driving to work and the car just boged down and shut off. So I had to keep starting it up to get it home cause it keep shutting off. So I thought I had a bad egr vaulve so i got a new one and still the same thing. But now it will warm up for about 5 min and then shut off again. Once you put it in gear the rpms drops down and then will shut off.
Any idea what the problem is?

me and inspector gadget agree that you should start there.

Yes, get the codes read. I am guessing bad coil pack. Mine did the same thing a few weeks ago and that was the problem. But, don't guess, get the codes read and fix it right the first time.

you cant have the codes read... our cars down work like that.. its an obd1 with an obd2 plug, and you cant jumper terminals to pull codes... you need an actual scanner for it to work, and thats at a garage or a dealer where they're gonna charge you for it

its shutting off after it starts to get hot? sounds like an ignition problem, something along the lines of a coil or ignition module. ignition module would be a safer bet, as the whole car shuts off, not just two cylinders.. but a coil is not out of the question

also, could be any sensor thats getting heat soaked. call up to parts places near by and see if any can test your ignition module. if so, Id start there..

You should be able to get a 3.4 scanned at any parts store. I had mine scanned at an Advance, they have all the hookups.

What year is yoru 3.4? I'm not certain, as all 3 of mine are 95's, but i think i heard that 93's are able to have the codes read in the normal, GM obd1 manner (paperclip). if its a 94 or 95, you cannot pull the codes like a normal obd1 car, or use an obd2 scanner.. 94's and 95's can be scanned, but only with true diagnostic machines.. garages and dealers have these but they arent pullin the codes for free..
