today i was on the freeway in some heavy @$$ rain and all of the sudden my car started misfiring badly and the ses light was flashing i called my mechanic (bro in-law) upon stopping and he said to just drive it home and every thing would be fine and he would look at it well i went and had it scanned and they said Random misfire on multiple cylinders. after that on my way home the problem corrected it's self. could water have just gotten under the coil packs like my bro - in-law said??

yes, it can also get inside the ICM which is designed like a huge bathtub. i still haven't figured out how to properly seal my ICM and i've had to replace it twice. if it does completely short out, don't take it to the dealership; you can replace it for about $120 and an hour in your driveway. very simple repair.
if you take the coils off of the ICM you'll see where the water is accumulating and causing short circuits.
I get the same stuff during the monsoons here in Southeast Louisiana. I always thought the coil pack was going to be a definite improvement over the old distributor system, but brother I got my doubts. around eight months ago I was on my way to conduct a funeral service, and about half way there, in a pretty steady rain, the coil packs started that stuff. I Isolated it to a bad single pack which I changed out and haven't really had too much trouble since. If anybody has an idea about keeping those bad boys dry, I'd love to know as well...blessings! you might try taking the coil pacs off and make sure that the connections are not corroded and then try some dielectric (sp) Grease on them before you put them back in also some dielectric on the terminal for the plug wire would not be a bad Idea. I had this problem a few times it cost me 2 coil packs but after greasing them up I have had no further trouble.
