nothing really special. your owners repair manual you bought tells you exactly how to replace it. :p

The Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn Procedure should be performed if any of the following conditions are true:

                DTC P1336 is set.
                The PCM has been replaced.
                The engine has been replaced.
                The crankshaft has been replaced.
The crankshaft harmonic balancer has been replaced.
The crankshaft position sensor has been replaced.

hmmm...true. I checked SI and there it is. I assumed our cars where lucky enough to not have to relearn. I have lost some faith in these repair manuals.

would it hurt if i didnt do the relearn procedure or would it run the same as it always has even with the new sensor because i put a new motor in and never did it could that be why its running rich but i only did the block?

i believe you are supposed to do it even if you touch the sensor because its never going to go on in exactly the same position, so it needs to learn whats what so to speak, if you find the right person at a dealer they will do it for free, i think it throws off your timing if you dont do it

would a bad sensor cause terrible gas mileage

yea because it sends the info it collects to the ignition module for spark timing and if its bad it can send wrong spark advance timing...that would be exactly why mines being changed
