  • My inital thoughts on Penzoil High Mileage

Well, I changed my oil yesterday, and I put some of that penzoil high milage 10w-30 stuff in my car. Now here is a little backround before I get to into it. I have a 1993 Firebird with the 3.4 in it. I have just recently rolled off 100,000 miles. I bought the car with 64,000 miles on it, and proceeded to use Mobil 1 10w-30, changing the oil every 3,000 to 4,000 miles, like you are supposed to do.

Lately, when it is really cold out, upon startup there would be a little bit of blue smoke blown out the tailpipe, but it wouldn't last but a few seconds. So that says to me that a few of my seals are starting to weaken. Therefore I decided to give this high milage stuff a try. I choose penzoil because it's a brand that I trust (used it before I started using Mobil 1).

First impression is pretty good. The engine seems to run a little smoother, idle is a lot smoother with less vibration, and I have not had any blue smoke, albeit it has not been cold yet.

I will try to keep everyone updated on the progress, and how many more miles might be under the hood of that thing.

I used the same on my 94 3.4 not quite 3000 miles ago. My 94 has about 125k on it. I am happy with the results. Might be my imagination but I think the car runs smoother.

I am sorry but I would never use penz in eny car I own... I have rebiult lots of motors and there would be some guys that are die hard penz users... You take the pistons and rods off and it is caked on... With penz it starts to cling to things inside the motor and things wear fast... yes it works at fist but you will start to feel the motor start to wear on you... Thats my opinion on penz... I just changed my oil with Penz High Mileage from regular Pennzoil 10w-30.

I could tell no difference, but I wasn't looking very hard. I noticed a whine primarily in first gear that sounded like it was the differential. There was no whine before the oil change. shrug...
        Any other opinions?

Actually there was a topic about motor oil a while back on the "other" site. Pennzoil as well as Catrol and some other brand failed the wear test. The oxidation resistance test was alrite. I saved one of the replies on the thread. If you want it. I will cut and paste it on to here for you to read.

when i had '88 bronco ii i regularly used pennzoil. replaced the valve cover gaskets and things looked good. good enough that i didnt need to bother to clean them.

still run pennzoil in the '93 dakota i have (bought it at 53,000, its now 114,000). i will let you know what it looks like inside when i repair the leaky plenum gasket on the intake manifold. however, i cheat with this engine, i run a little marvel mystery oil (pint or so).

The way I look at it is that most people have a brand loyalty to a certian Oil, and they bash all other oils, in much the same way that we bash fords, when in actuality they are pretty good cars.
