you need a puller,i doubt you can get the pully off without it.i replaced mine last summer.its pretty simple once you get the pully off.

You should be able to pick up a puller for about $15 at a parts store. The center bolt has to come out too. The process is fairly simple by just following the instructions that come with the puller. I belive it took me about a half hour total. That center bolt might be difficult to get off because the pully will want to turn when you turn the wrench. I used an impact wrench and if you have access to one you might want to use it.

The only other way is to lock the ring gear with a pry bar or a screw driver. That way the flywheel will not move and you can loosen the bolt.

Where the starter gear contacts the flywheel there should be some teeth visible. Stick a screw driver or a crow bar in those teeth to hold it. You may also need a cheater pipe for your wrench. This will probably be a two person job.

I don't have my papers in front of me so I can't give the specs at the moment, but when I get home here later after I party hard for my bday I will post the specs for you.

Do not use an impact wrench with the puller. very well could break it. use something else like a wrench :)

i used a rachet on the puller and it still wouldnt work im thinking tis the wrong puller because only two of the 3 bolts would actually fit through iut and go in the harmonic balancer? could the be the problem

I did a cam interrupter install last night / this morning.

I was able to pull off my harmonic balancer (on a 3.8L and I've done it like 3 times before). I only used 2 bolts of the 3.
I've noticed that on the 3.8L's harmonic balancer the 3rd hole doesnt go all the way through like the other 2
                            good luck

could it be that i have the wrong puller like i have 4 holes on my balancer and can only get two bolts in because the puller isnt alligned right for another one, i might try again next weekend when i get the time?
