• Gas Tank Size?

I've heard anything between 12 and 17 gallons.
I need to know this. I couldn't think of anywhere to post.
So, help me out?

You have a 15.5 gallon tank. 93-98 have 15.5 gallon tanks, and 99-02 have 16.8 gallon tanks.

wh00ps, I meant to say 93-98 in my first post. Seems I forgot that year even existed!

But yea guys don't you ever notice it goes like this.

First 80mi or so it barely drops to 3/4 then when I hit 130/140 I'm at half...it floats there for a while and then at 200 all of a sudden within like 5mi it drops to 1/4, hangs there, and then drops to E around 260. It's really messed up. :D

lol that's so true.. once i get past half a tank it seems to drop like crazy. if i fill up all the way my marker will stay past full for a good 90-100 miles then it starts dropping pretty quick.. i have a 94 3.4 and i get about 270 avg miles out of my tank. i realized this cause i found out that 94 camaros dont have fuel lights that light up when you get low the hard way lol..

The whole concept of the second half going faster is puzzling.
What is the case?
Is the guage inaccurate?

If you have a full tank-half tank, you car will weight more because of the extra fuel. More wieght=Worse Gas Mileage, but the first half last longer?

Or are we more likely to drive harder when the car has Half tank to Empty because is lighter, therefore using more gas, because the car feels peppy'er.

I know a portion is because, the shape of our tanks is wierd.

Im aksing this because I though if I just kept filling up at 1/2 empty would be more efficient, but the weight senario doesn't make sense.

The gauge senses the level of the fuel (the height of the fuel) in the tank. The tank is kind of V shaped, so removing the same amount of gas when the level is close to the bottom makes the guage move faster than when it is near the top.

I would be inclined to say your car drinks as much gas in the first half as the second. your gas mileage, unless you do some mod at halfway, will be the same for both. The float and sensor that sends the fuel level to your tank is fixed. You can "over-fill" to some extent, but it will still say F, even though it's oevr F. So really, there's more fuel in the top half of the tank than the bottom. Remember, it's just a mechanical level sensor.

the tank is V shaped, thus holding more fuel in the top half than the bottom.
