  • key stuck in ignition

did a search on a couple of incidences where people got their key stuck in their ignitions ... don't know exactly how they resolved their problem, so i'm posting.

ok ... this is exactly what happened.

    went to move my car
stuck the key in the ignition
put it in drive ... went like 20 feet into my parking space

... and long and behold ...

the key doesnt come out of the driving position.

yeah ... so called the 1-800 number for chevy and they told me to take the fuel pump fuse out along with the ignition fuse so the car will turn off ... and now im basically stuck with a key that doesn't want to come out of the ignition.

any ideas on how i could take the key out?

i've tried moving the steering column with the tilt wheel feature / putting it in neutral and try to move the ignition and the key ... still won't budge / used all my tools to just yank the dang yo thing out ... but still no success.

    help ... me!

I had the exact same problem, remove your shifter knob then remove the housing under it.

If you slightly push down on the top of the shifter you can see when you push it, it kind of "pumps" some sort of cylinder. Mess around with the cylinder and try to pull it with your hand.

Once your there it will make more sence. TO my car this cylinder was just kind of stuck and i just tapped it and it unlocked the key.

It all came together after 20 minutes...
Trust me i was so relieved that it wasnt the lock Cylinder..

got in there ... checked the pump thing you were talking about ... and there was actually 2 pumps. both of them were working fine from what i see. is there any other reason why my key might be stuck?
