  • Running hot while not moving

I've been into the city for the past few days doing christmas shopping and every time I've noticed that I start running a little hot when waiting at long red lights and in traffic jams. When not moving, my temp climbs up to about mid way but as soon as I hit 50ish it goes right back down. Is this normal? I just had my oil changed and have had the car for only a year, perhaps its time to refresh the dexcool?

Or is this something not to worry about?

it would be a good idea to check your fans and make sure they are working. checking your coolant wouldnt hurt either just cause

just read you post again, its going half way, so to 210? going to 210 is fine. but if you dont get up to speed, does it keep going past 210? if so, if it contines to go up, i would check your fans. other than that, this sounds like a normally operating cooling system.

Yeah, like BLLDOGG asked, how hot is it getting?

Sitting still results in no airflow to keep things cool, so the temperature will climb until the fans kick in. You'll always run cooler while driving than sitting.

I'm not sure, I've never seen it climb past 210. It might go a wee bit past, but not much.

If it's only a tick above 210°, your car is working 100% normally. The fans don't even turn on until 220°.

Sounds like its normal, most vehicles do that anyways. Unlike cars/trucks though, I cant let my dirtbike sit and idle very long at all. It doesn't have a fan on the radiators so I have turn off the engine if I'm going to sit still for more than a minute or two.
