is this "normal"?

I was heading down the interstate this evening bringing my daughter home from work. I decided to give the bird a little freedom as she mostly does in city traffic all week. Upon a hard acceleration. (as in passing variety) I noticed the volt meter take a dive from its usual 13.5v post and drop to just around the outer edge of the orange area to the left of center on the meter. When I returned to a normal cruise, the meter gravitated right back to its normal place. When I got off at my exit, it was sittin' pretty as usual? Is that something "normal" that I have just never noticed before. I pretty much baby the car, so I never have real opportunity to do that.

I wouldn't worry. Atleast in my cars case, which isn't the poser child of a fit car, the same thing happens with ALL The gauges (except the temp) under acceleration / deceleration..the only accurate time is during idle. Did you notice anything dim? (Like the stereo lights, gauge lights, etc)

Good to know I'm not alone! ;) This morning on my way to the church, I noticed the oil gauge and the volt meter running a little higher than usual. I changed from Sam's premium Gasoline to Chevron with Techron...whatever that is. Could a fuel change affect the oil pressure etc?

Fuel has nothing to do with the oil pressure. Maybe you're just more attentive now than before. But the pressure is always higher at start up. Turn on the radio and idle and you will see it fall a bit. Techron is just a fuel additive to help reduce the build up of carbon deposits.
If you are really concern, have your alternator checked and change the belt and your oil and see if anything is different.

Hey Pastor Larry, I was driving back from preaching in San Diego, (I live in Phoenix) and my alt gauge was in the 11 volt range. I prayed the whole way home since I was driving late on a sunday night. The next day I checked my battery and alt with a volt meter, and everything was fine. Some times the gauge just acts up I guess, because I have checked it with the meter a couple of times, to verify the REAL output.

Yeah! Seems like when you try to do something for the Lord...or even just right...it all comes out of the woodwork...huh? I drive my wife up the wall with my "gauge reports" on long trips. She really doesn't care much how the controls fluctuate, just so long as we get there in one piece, I on the other hand listen for clicks, rattles,pops, needle jumps, ect...and by the time I get where I'm going...it takes fifteen or so minutes to get the circulation back into my hands.
I'm way too uptight where gauges are concerned... but its probably just the result of not knowing what the heck I would do if the thing slung a rod!
