I replaced my wheel hub, and the speed sensor was built into that on a 97 3.8L

It's pretty simple but you have to buy an entire wheel hub assembly which was around 150- 200 dollars

Basically just pull the brakes apart, pull off the rotor and theres, 4 bolts from the inside holding the hub on, work those out, and get the hub out which was a b*tch IMO, unplug the sensor and replace.

But like i said im not sure the 3.4's are the same as the 3.8's.. good luck!

i beleive all four wheels have speed sensors , from what i understood the front wheel sensors were on the wheel hub, a plug in the back. And as far as the rears i dont really know but im with BLLDOGG and im sure theyre on the differential

VSS is in trans
wheel speed sensors are in fronts and maybe in rear axle or rear hubs,if you have a 3 or 4 channel ABS system.

OK, some mass confusion, i was under the impression of wheel speed sensor thanks for clearing that up v6droptop

Ok... Wheel speed sensors: A vehicle with a 3channel ABS (no traction control) has three wheel speed sensors. The front left and front right sensors are located in the hub and are serviced as part of the hub. The rear wheels share a sensor that is located on top of the differential (pumpkin). A 10mm bolt holds it in. To replace, simply unplug, remove the bolt, replace the sensor, put the bolt back in, and plug the new sensor in.

In a 4 channel ABS system (vehicles with traction control). The rear wheels each have independent wheel speed sensors located in the backing plate behind each rotor. Replacement is basically the same as the single sensor on the pumpkin.

Now, the Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is located in the tailshaft of the transmission. Replacement is the same as the rear wheel speed sensors. Remove the 10mm bolt and replace the sensor.

If you speed sensor problem is related to ABS, you've got a wheel speed sensor problem. If your issue is with the speedometer or shifting (automatics) then you have a vehicle speed sensor problem.

Hope this helps.
