• Gas guage reads high

I must have bad luck with cars or something. This is my second car in a row that I've owned that the gas guage reads high.

When my guage reads 3/4, its only like 1/2. And when it reads 1/4, its more like empty. I'm not sure if it works off a sensor and the voltage is just not right, or how it works at all.

Has anyone else ever came across anything like this. I never actually tried fixing it on my Grand Prix, but I never found anyone else that has ever seen it before either.

    Thanks.

yeah alot of the GM gas gauges are not the most accurate things in the world. when i fill my car up, the gauge reads about a quater inch past the full mark and when it gets down to 1/4 tank it drops really fast towards empty

Don't worry at all, that's normal. Our gas tanks are shaped like V's, therefore when your gas tank is full, it's gonna take awhile for the needle to move very far. On the other hand, once the needle gets past half full, it seems to go down a lot quicker. This is all due to the V-shaped gas tank.

mine had this problem and i didnt know about it. i wound up on a empty tank and sucked up some junk and had to have the injectors replaced and the fuel lines blown out.

from what i heard.. fill the car up all the way, pull the cover off the guage cluster and adjust the needle to read full.

Yeah, just heat it up a little before trying to bend it so it won't break...they are fragile. Your sister's hair dryer will do the trick. A heat gun will ruin the gauge face.
