  • K&N cone filter vs. K&N stock filter

I know this is a stupid question, but it is something that has been on my mind for years.

What are the pros and cons between a cone filter and a K&N stock filter replacement.

I know that the cone filter would get more airflow with less restriction, but would their stock replacement air filter get enough to acomplish the same goal?

My only other concern is water. I put a cone filter on my last car and allways wondered what would happen if I ran through a big puddle of water and sucked some of it up. I really didn't care a lot about my last car, so it didn't slow me down. But this car on the other hand, I don't what to chance anything like that. Has anyone ever heard of this?

    Thanks.

Have you looked at the intake piping on your car? There really isn't a way you could put a cone filter on unless you buy or make your own cold air intake. The main problem with the intakes are the plastic piping makes so many random turns it really restricts airflow.

To answer your question somewhat a K&N stock replacement would probably help some with air flow and the fact that your oem filter is probably filthy by now. A cold air intake with a cone filter would obviously increase air flow drastically over just replace the stock filter.

If I were you I'd pull that factory intake out of there altogether and pick up or fabricate a nice cold air kit with the cone filter located down behind the headlight where little water can even get at it. I couldn't believe how restricted the airflow was on the factory set up when I took mine off. There's about a 1"x4" slot followed by a 180 degree turn before it even gets into the air box.

Thanks for all the input. This is the first chance I've had to check back online. I might try to order myself a cold air intake next week sometime.
