        Re: cooling

you do realize, unless you have a '98, the temp gauges in our cars are basically dummy gauges? the only time they're useful is if your temp spikes into the red-zone and the car shuts itself off

                Re: cooling

Have you check for any leaks in your water pump, or noticed any small liquid on your passenger floor board. Whenever your heater core is about to go out the car likes to run a little hot because the water gets gunked up whenever it gets to the heater core. That and your thermo may be sticking (depending on how dirty your coolant system is) even though you said it was new.

Check your water pump for any leaks, or old age........and then change it to an electric water pump FTW! Then do a flush and fill and make sure that you bleed all the air out of the system and then see what it runs at.

I can't remember what type of thermo you said you were running, but maybe you want to try and drop down to a 180* thermo or possibly even lower, even though 180* is cold enough.

There is another write up somewhere on this board, that I find better then the one I posted. But I don't have the time to search for it right now. Do some searching on this board, I'm sure you will find it.

                      Re: cooling

I put in a new 170 thermostat when I got the all the mods about a year ago. But even when everything was new it still ran at about 200.Now it doesn't run hot it just doesn't run any cooler than it did stock. Now granted I do live in southern Arizona, but still it should still run cooler than it does. If someone has the instuctions for the fan switch or any other tricks/tips and where to get them that would be cool.

                        Re: cooling

putting in a lower temp thermostat is not going to make it run any cooler. It just opens sooner and has coolant flowing quicker. Therefore slowing the process of heating up down. You need to change the fan settings or have a manual fan switch in order to keep your engine cooler.

Read my post above yours! I mean, when they say search, they actually mean use the search feature, but how are you going to ask a question that the answer was already given to you just one post above. sheesh!!!

I did the manual fan switch and wired it up like the instructions show. When I hit the low switch both fans come on low and when I hit the high switch one fan comes on really high,is that normal? I thought it was supposed to be the other way around.

Do you mean you added MORE Dex-cool? You may have TOO much. Get a coolant tester. Reading should be NO MORE than 265 degrees hot, which is a 50/50 mix. Too much Dex-cool makes you run HOTTER. Dex-cool has a lower thermal transfer than water. Also too much Dex-cool creates sludge.
