I had the same problems. Changed my MAF and all was good. Of course, the MAF isn't a cheap part :( . But, if you have a K&N, over oiling it will cause your MAF to misread and possibly ruin it. I've heard you can clean the MAF with carb cleaner and it'll still work. I"m not 100% on that though, so.........

                      And auto666, you're such a post whore :) . That's ok though, I'm partly one.

Yes, you can clean your MAF with carb cleaner, just use it lightly and don't spray like crazy when going to do it.

Carb Cleaner = clean it all
                        FTW!!!!

there is something that i know i have seen at napa, but havent looked elsewhere for called MAF cleaner, probably better than carb cleaner, just a thought

ive aways used no chlorinated brake clean carb clean works to make sure the key is out of the ignition when you do it and let it dry 10 minutes before you even put the key in the run position
                            radracer thank you i try

Also, when is the last time you had a tune up? i find it funny that it doesn't miss in first gear, but whenever you are driving it and start to get into high rpm's it starts to sputter. At first thought I would say you are having a misfire, or maybe a bad coil.

But then I think about when I've had the problem of when I would get on a car and it gets to high rpm's it would start to sputter and it turned out to be a vacuum leak. So check all those lines as well. Also, depending on how many miles the car has on it, and if you are anywhere near a spark plug change, I would sea-foam the heck out of it. It can't hurt to try.
