  • so my RPM's are possesed...

it will only do this once the car is really hot, especially in hot weather.

ill be cruisin on the freeway in 5th gear. my RPM's will be around 2400-2600 depending on my speed and then all of a sudden they drop down to 0 and the call stalls. what's weird is i dont have to turn the key to restart the car. all i have to do is step on the gas and my RPS's shoot back up to normal. but then they begin to drop down to around 2100 then back up to 2400, down again, and up again. it will do this until i floor it or down shift to get my RPM's above 3000. then it goes away...till the next time.

so far i have replaced the: air filter, maf sensor, crank sensor, coils, plugs, and wires.

    ideas, questions, comments, please.

    thanks.

So you're going down the road at like 60 mph, in gear, and the tach shows 0 rpm?

Alternator going bad? I've heard of some pretty crazy things when it's on its way out.

well, more like 80 mph, but, yes. the tach will show 2500 and then drop to 0 and all my "idiot lights" come on. i can still hear the engine running and if i step on the gas, in most cases the RPM's on the tach go back to normal, but then fluctuate as i mentioned before.

i dont know if it could be the alternator, but i have considered the possibilty of an electrical problem.

I'd take the alt in to have it tested.

Does your car start to stutter?

Definately sound electrical, Alt or Battery or maybe both are going out...

yes it does stutter. what's the possibility its the fuel pump or fuel filter? i havent had either replaced in the last 50,000 miles or more.

Neither would cause the problems you mentioned.

Take the alt in to have it tested. ;)

Although it wouldn't hurt to change the filter just because it needs it.

                  Hey all.

I'd be checking the fuel filter and pump....
