  • Backfiring... over 2,000 rpm

i was told it was normal for older cars like my 94 to kind of make a "coughing" noise if you rev it in neutral over 2,000 rpm.. it has done that since i bought it.. it coughs on the way back down from either 2500rmp and up.. anything under 2,000 goes back down fine sounding good.. is this normal? i hear it's extra fuel burning out of the cylinder heads.. is there a way to fix this? cause when i try to show off lol (even tho its a 6, sounds lke an 8 w/ the flowmaster) it coughs up on the way back and dosent sound too clean.. is this fixable?? i was told it really wasnt
