  • Some Weird things I can't figure out

    ok maybe you guys have some ideas.

    My check engine light has been on for a few months now and I know its m egr..I am just waiting until I can get 150 together for a new one. today I Was sitting in a car wash and all of sudden my ses light starts flashing! I don't know what this means...car seem to run a little rough too.

    Also, while I am driving, my doors keep unlocking, You can hear the click noise its really weird...

    Any ideas?

    I think the flashing SES is a misfire. Check plugs and wires.

      doors unlocking.. haha...thats funny

      running rough and the check engine light flashing means you are misfiring
      $150 seems overpriced... I would just buy from car-part.com or a member of this board

        misfireing eh? Well, crap, I've never changed plugs on this car before and from what everyone usally says is that its a pain in the butt. This shall be a fun day.

        Yeah, the doors keep unlocking, so while you are driving all you hear is , "click, click,click". I wonder if that has to do with the remote.


        And to think, I took the day off to have a break....guess not.

        oh and the gear shift(automatic) button is sticking in where I can't put it in park and take the key out unless I physically pull the button out which is a chore since there is no grip.

            $150 bux for an egr valve? I wish mine was that cheap....a few years ago when I replaced mine, it was over $300, damn near $400...and that was the cheapest one I found anywhere in town. Seems like I had read somewhere that the egrs on the 3.4 V6's like mine were a tad pricey.

              if my egr ever goes i'm just gonna try for a junkyard part. that or just seal off the EGR port. Yes, flashing SES light means misfire. You said u were in a carwash so it was probably some water that got on some ignition circuit wires or maybe the coils. Wouldnt worry about it. Doors locking... do u have a factory or aftermarket alarm? iirc, the factory alarm should be completely disabled once the engine is started. Only thing you can do is to find some wiring diagrams and follow the door lock wires all the way thru the circuit and you'll find the problem right there.

                I don't know if I would trust a used EGR, electronics are pains sometimes.

                I still have the factory alarm, its just weird, it seems almost everytime I hit a bump they unlick, maybe a loose wire somewhere.

                I took it to my buddy's house, hes a good mechanic. We used his obd2 scanner and it popped up 3 codes.

                Misfire #4
                EGR which I already knew
                IAT sensor

                I checked out the IAT sensor it it was busted so I bought a new one and replaced the PCV valve, that didn't look like its been changed since the car was new, stil had the ACDelco in it. The he told me before we venture into changing the plugs, we should sea foam it and clean it out real good, and even we if we fouled a plug we were going to do it anyway.

                I've never seen so much white smoke in a long time, it was almost as if we were spinning the wheels. The car is running really well, I gained some torque. Still threw the EGR code though. I am trying to do one thing at a time. What has happened is that I inherited someone elses neglectfullness when we bought the car, so I am having to do one thing at a time. lol ohwel.
