  • Oil pressure loss

I am conserned about the oil pressure in my car. I am looking at my gauge one night and I am seeing the pressure jump from a little over 60 psi all the way down to 30 psi, and it jumps in between the whole time. My rpm's don't change. I am thinking that it is the oil pump, but I am hoping that ain't it. Anyone have any suggestions??

    Thanks

Ya, soulds like a pump. What weight oil are you running? The correct amount of oil is in there right? How long since a complete oil change? What happens when the rpm's go up?

      oil is at normal level
when the RPM's go up, it seems to not jump as much, but still jumps nevertheless.

Could be a bad or leaky oil sending unit (located just above the oil filter). They run about $25 for a replacement.

I had one start leaking on me at a Solo II event and at the staging line my oil pressure bounced from 60psi to 30 psi and back again. I aborted my run and found oil leaking near the sending unit. $25 and an hour later (takes only 5 minutes to change... had to get part), all was fixed! ;)

well my pressure does sort of the same. It's a little below 60 when the car is stopped, runs 3/4 when the car goes. I guess it's cause of the oil leak that I have. I had an estimate today, they said something about leaking above valve cover or soemthing, tranny leak, oil leak,a nd something about power steering. The estimate was between 700-800 bucks, I might just have to take it to a cheaper place, I am not planning on spending more than 500.
