i am tired of refueling my car like it has a V8 in it. Will just a tune up fix this problem?

check/replace

1) air filter
2) spark plugs
3) spark plug wires
4) oxygen Sensor

my car only does 350KM per tank of gas and its a v6 3.4L...

I know most v8's get 400KM per tank of gas, my car just sucks on gas usage for some reason..

Yeah I just had to fill up today, I got a little over 13 miles a gallon. There were only 170 miles on the tank. Pitiful isn't it.

geez, I thought the ~220 miles I get on a tank in my LS1 was bad.. lol... definitely time for a tuneup in those V6's!

I usually range in the 280-300 miles per tank, and I have a heavy foot. Wow less than 200 is crazy. Something definitely not right there.

WHOA!

I manged 400 miles on my last tank, 2/3 higway, 1/3 city I even had 2 drag races in there, I was a little easier on the car(had a passenger most the time, so I drive more civilized).

I even get at least 220, with a week of driving hard, a trip to a track(drag or autocross)

I was getting 12 mpg city, and 17 highway, when my o2s went out.

things you should check...

-plugs
-wires(check the EGR, mine likes to come loose and blow exhasut on my passenger wires and cook them)
-get a multimeter(I think autozone will lend them out for free), and check all three coils.
-O2 sensors, I thin autozone will lend yor the special tool that is needed(I just bought one for $4)

O2s was a big culprit on my gas mileage problems, if they read wrong they can be running oyur car rich as hell(I think its a safety feature, as opposed to running lean) Mine did set of an SES light though.

-IAT sensor(with the IAT mod, I lost 5 mpg, so a bad IAT sensor shoudl do the same)

I would also change/clean...
fuel filter
injectors
use upper intake cleaner
TAKE your throttle body off and clean it
check Manifold absolute pressure sensor

I have been getting 14mpg city and 20mpg highway. This weekend I drove from my university to my home (140 miles) with a 180* thermostat, and got 20 mpg all highway with cruise on at about 73 the whole way. This is minnesota mind you. As an experiment, when I got home I put in a 195* thermostat. I didn't change anything else on the car. I filled the tank back up with the same grade of gas and everything. Then drove back to school a day later, weather conditions where the same. I got 26.8 mpg with the 195* thermo. Just something to check if you are in a cold weather area with a low temp thermo.

I get 220 miles per tank of gas in my 3.4L
I changed my sparks, and air filter and its still the same...

220 miles is driving gently shifting before 3000RPM...

how do i check to see if its my OS sensor??? it could be that im not sure, but i am pissed off that V8's get more than me

Unfortunately, I think that poor gas mileage is a trait of the 3.4 liter engine. I've had two cars with various versions. One was a '93 Lumina Z34 that ran really strong but only got 14 mpg average 50/50 highway/city driving. The other was a POS Olds Alero that ran like sh!t (I bought it brand new and kept it until the 30,000 mile warranty was up then traded it in because I knew I could never afford all of the shop trips the car required). The Alero got only 17 mpg average 50/50 highway/city driving.

For camparison sake, my 3.8 Camaro gets 22 mpg combined (with stock gears it was about 1 - 2 mpg better) and the SS stock got 19 - 20. That car still gets about 15 - 16 mpg with gears + aggressive heads/cam!

I am sure that the cold climate, windy roads and hilly terrain are reasons that everyone around Pittsburgh seems to get well less than advertised mileage.

I'm in Southern CA and get that kind of mileage. It was at 10mpg, but I replaced my thermostat because the old one wasn't working and it went back up to about 13, but it would be nice if I could break 200 miles on a tank of gas. On the highway I should be back to 30mpg since I took that stupid Tornado out.

I thin its your o2 sensors... because I have a mildly modded 3.4L with 3.42s, and I get more then 200 on a tank, flogging the motor.

Is there any way you can physically tell that your 02 sensor needs replacement by taking it out?
