wtf check engine light???

Yesterday I hit a pothole pretty bad (didn't do any tire damage, thank God) and shortly after that happened, I noticed the "service engine soon" light came on. I'm not sure if hitting that pothole had anything to do with it, but since both things happened within about the same time, I figured they're probably related. I'm thinking maybe a wire or sensor got knocked loose or something. I'm gonna tinker around with it and see if I can't find anything. Do you guys have any idea would it could be? If I don't find anything I'm just gonna have a diagnostic ran on it, although I don't really want to spend the money right now.

It might be what you said, a sensor. Take it to advance auto parts of autozone and have it scanned for free. It'll then give you a code and you can look it up and you'll know for sure what it is. In the meantime, it might be lots of things that could be wrong and I'd hate for you to fix something thinkin its the problem and then the light kept still coming on......

Cool. thanks for the advice. Where can I look up the code? By the way, I don't have an owner's manual (if that's the easiest place to look it up). I'm sure I can find it online somewhere..

get the car scanned at autozone, walk inside, pick up a haynes manual and look it up for free ;)
