Experiencing knock retard before warm up...

so I have noticed it for awhile...

but now I got full proof.


basically logged from a cold start, doesn't do this all the time but occasionally.


either way car starts up drive...

and I accelerate normally, and I was showing about 6* timing advance at 14% throttle then it suddenly starts to bog down, and I experienced knock and negative timing.. to the point that it peaked at. -15* timing and 14.9* of knock.

So what do you guys think this is about?

What grade of gas are you using, Eric? If you're using regular, try the 93 and see if the same condition occurs. This is the only way to determine if the knock retard that you are experiencing is true or false. On my runs, I had major KR as soon as I shifted into 4th gear which we were never able to understand. I ended up taking down the sensitivity a tad and it solved the problem. That may be what you'll have to do.

was on 87...

on a drag run or two I experienced some knock but not too much. I'll haven't gone over the logs yet...


BTW if it matters, its stock catback, with cutout closed, so car is pretty quiet.

Yeah, the kind of the exhaust isn't really as important as how it's installed. If it's banging on something back by the axle it could cause some false knock. If you feel like it, you could take a look under there and see if anything is close to the body.

nah I have no bangs... I also logged a few runs(it was sprinkling) and I didn't really show any knock even with bad wheel hop...
