  • Doing plugs and wire soon...

Its time to change out the plugs and wires for new ones on my '96 3.8L. I know this process is a PITA, so how long do you think for a newbie with 1 or 2 helpers (dad and cousin-in-law - works at a GM dealership as a mechanic)? I haven't bought the wires or plugs yet, so any recommendations? I know this may be a really stupid question, but how many wires come in a "set"? I'm looking at Taylor plugs from Thunder Racing, which are $39.99. Is that for 3, 6? Should I even bother with these, or just stick with something like AC Delco? I'll probably be getting NGK TR55 plugs, if that matters. Thanks for any help... I did a search but couldn't find out how hard it was for a '96.

I'd buy some AC Delcos personally. I think it shouldn't take you more than a couple hours or even sooner since one guy can take a side and the other can watch with a beer in his hand

Haha that actually made me laugh. Alright, so if I get the AC Delcos, I'll just get everything from Advance Auto Parts. Whats the stock gap for the 3.8L? These are the only cheap NGK plugs I can find at AAP...

And is this a set of 6?

Thanks for answering the newbie questions...

2-3 people doing a sparkplug change? is there even enough room under/over the car for 3 people to work w/o hitting eachother or rubbing up against eachother every minute?

Hehe, yea, two people can fit unbder there fine. Btw, I know this may be obvious, but remember to get the spark plug socket, an extension bit and a universal swivel joint. Also, get this small packs you can apply to the spark plug, the anti-seize compound, its real cheap, i think like 1 dollar a pack...

btw, im sorry to laugh, but try to get someone else to do #4, it is a PAIN and will leave your hands (unless you got baby hands) remembering... :)
