allrighty guys i'm absolutely furious... you'd think replacing the fuel filter would be a piece o cake right? wrong. the ****kin thing was so rusted and so tight that i actually twisted the metal fuel line while trying to disconnect it. I threw my wrench a hundred yards before i calmed myself down. anyhow, now that my fuel line is ****ked and my filter is still attached like a leetch, how do i go about fixing this? are there kits i can use? whats the best thing to do... cut the fuel line and put on another one? thanx

you realize you needed 2 wrenches i hope cuz there should be a nut on the fuel line and one on the filter. yeah, pretty much if the line is kinked or damaged in any way you need a new one. pretty straight forward dude.

Yes, use some PB blaster or some kind of penetrating oil/lubricant whenever working with rusty bolts. You actually can sheer a lot of bolts off before they give way when rusted, so spray the hell out of them.
I'd try to figure out what the hose is called and look at an autoparts store. But, there's a good chance you will have to go to the dealer.2001 Black Z28 M6<br />Sprayed, slotted, geared and more~Comment

suck my nuts, of course i used two wrenches... i even tried two small pipe wrenches... thats how desperate i was. Don't assume cuz i'm a noob that i'm retarded, anyhow i soaked that sucker in wd-40, i practically drenched it. I just don't think the filter had ever been replaced before.Comment

if you were properly using two wrenches there would have been no way you could have bent the fuel line, and wd40 does not cut it, pb blaster is intended for penetrating rust, wd40 was notComment

As much fun as it's been winding you up by calling you a noob and such, the fact of the matter is that even with high quality flare nut wrenches from SnapOn I've had the same situation. All the penetrating oil in the world would not have helped and when one of the wrenches over-runs the nut, the line twists. Been there, done that.
So now what? Well, you have a couple of choices.
1) Replace the entire fuel line (either new or from wrecker)
2) Splice in a new (or fabricated) section of flared line with some new flare nuts from your local auto parts store. (you'll also need pipe cutting and flaring tools)
Although you could get away with it, I would not recommend using rubber hose as a repair. Even re-inforced rubber hose for high pressure applications will be subject to slippage at the clamping interface with the rigid line, or overtime will degrade and weaken given the harsh enviroment down under there. anyhow, i went with choice # 2.... cut some pipe, connected it all with some flare nuts, seems to be holding up so far, gonna let it sit over night to see if it leaks any. It's just a temporary fix however, since my brake lines and fuel lines are pretty much shot i think i'll have them replaced in a couple months.... since they're only metal in the middle and rubber hoses in the front and back does that mean it will cost less to have replaced?Comment

As much as we would like to do a lot of things ourselves on these cars there IS a time to let a professional mechanic at the Chevy
dealer or else where handle issues like this. Had U taken it to the dealer, it would have been done in an hour or so and it would up have costing you less money and certainly U would have avoiding
the frustration and inconvenience of your experience and it would have been done and they would take any responsibility for it leaking later.
These cars are not like the old 63 Dodge Dart anymore.
Next time call the dealer first and ask what the price would
be...U might be surprised.PhilComment
