alrite. this is my first thread. so here it goes:

my cars been overheating for about a month and a half. i've flushed the radiator. last week i noticed that there was coolant leaking in the passenger foot compartment. i replaced the heater core since it was obvious it had a leak. now the car STILL overheats and the heater doesnt work @ all   . also i don't notice a loss in coolant anymore. so it isn't a leak anymore. what else can i do to figure it out???

check into a new thermostat. that's always a good try. try that and go from there.

no clue.. im clueless about technical crap like this

edit- im thinkin the AC needs to be "charged" or wahtever they call it

                  Re: overheating

my car usually runs at about 210 in town, and about 190 on the highway. but that was when i had my license. when i get my license back ill have a 160* thermostat in there, and i already have a manual fan switch installed, so i dont know what it'll run then. otherwise, what temp is yours running at?

                    Re: overheating

in town about 220 and then in a matter of time it slowly creeps up and up. on the freeway it creeps up and past 260 then i put on the heater (which doesn't work anymore) and put the car in nuetral and as i coast the temp drops pretty quickly.

                      Re: overheating

when it's at operating temps, are the main radiator coolant hoses stiff? are both main coolant hoses for the radiator hot? are your fans coming on when it starts to overheat? do your fans come on when you turn on your AC? Are you filling and checking your radiator from the top of the radiator or the reservoir? Did you bleed the system when you filled it back up?

your HVAC system most likely has a problem if it needs to be recharged. Well hell, it already has a problem since it doesn't blow cold

                          Re: overheating

everytime my friend's vehicle over heated, he lost all heat in it. sucked on really cold days. his main problem ended up being a bad radiator hose, and just needing a really good flush, along with a new thermostat. but he's got to get a dealer original, the aftermarket crap isn't working, or fitting for that matter. all i'm saying his main problem is over heating, so im more concerned about that. unless he takes it to a shop, the process of elimination is going to be his main objective. thermostats aren't expensive, and are fairly easy to change. so why not try it?

both coolant hoses are hot after ive been driving. i havent noticed any stiffness in them. fans do come on when it overheats. i'm pretty sure they come on with the a/c. yes im filling the radiator @ the radiator itself and not the resevoir. when i fill it i let the car idle for a good 10-15 mins and then top it off and close it. isnt that what "bleeding" is???

i think im gonna try that cuz it is an easy and pretty cheap way of @ lease eliminating a potential problem. if not a problem now then it will probly become one in the future.
